Top 20 Photos of 2013 - #20

This post is for the "Top 20 Photos of 2013" blog hop organized by Duncan of The Kuantan Blog. The hardest bit is in selecting the photos and to narrow them down to 20. The elimination process is more tedious than I ever thought possible.
To start the ball rolling, I choose this photo which was taken during my recent trip to Dataran Merdeka with my two darlings.
The Sultan Abdul Samad building at Dataran Merdeka is always one of my favourite architectural structure. It represents one of the last Moorish architectural style in the world and I am proud that the Malaysian leaders choose to maintain them. This building used to be the government offices but after the move to Putrajaya, instead of abandoning it, this building is now used as a Tourist attraction center. I decided to shoot this building from a different angle and I really like the result.

Week 26 - Belated birthday on 25th Dec 2013

We don't celebrate Christmas. On this day, we had a family thanksgiving that includes among others introducing my nephew's new wife to my mum's family and friends (who couldn't make it to the wedding). For our Our--beautiful--world challenge this time, the theme is Christmas and I know mine is really out of tune. Still, I couldn't help sharing this photo of my beautiful niece with her birthday cake. It is actually a belated birthday celebration because her actual birthday falls on 11.12.13. An extremely auspicious birth date that will never be seen again. She chose 25.12.13 to celebrate the occasion because she wants to share this lovely day of hers with her grandma and other family members. Happy belated birthday Aisyah.

Authentic Style

It was a struggle trying to complete this layout. Since time was running out, I decided to use store-bought feathers instead of making my own. I decided to leave the colour as is to add some colours to the overall layout.
This layout is for Scrapfriends Blog Sketch challenge #19. I really like the sketch:

And here is the layout showing Zahra' on a vintage motorcycle on display. I think it was a Norton. This photo was taken when we took Zahra' to this restaurant for lunch a day before her 13th birthday.

Our Beautiful world - Thanksgiving

Another entry for Our--beautiful--world challenge and the theme is THANKSGIVING. Since I do not celebrate Thanksgiving, that does not mean I am not a thankful person. There are so many things I am thankful for. The one thing that I am thankful for is my camera which is a 20th Service Anniversary gift from my company. This camera is my friend and I carry it with me wherever I go (unless my daughter borrowed it for her outings and/or trips). With this camera I am able to capture moments, events and memories. Here are some of the shots I took for sharing:
Zahra' riding Dodoe in her 4th Dressage competition. As a pre-birthday gift, she won
2nd place

One of the Class photos I was commissioned to shoot. This is a free for all by the form 4B students

This bouquet was taken during one of the luncheons. My first attempt at still photos
Thank you for looking. I hope I can go further with my camera. Probably - have camera will travel.

Our Beautiful World Challenge Week 21 - Eye(s)

Oh dear! where have I been? I missed a few challenges and I wasn't aware of it. For this weeks' challenge at Our--beautiful--world  the word is EYE(S).
I chose this photo of my daughter and her friends taken during their school Performance Day and I really like the way their eyes 'see' into the camera.

Cherish Family Memories

It's been a while since I created a layout. When I was told about this Filipina challenge blog by my sister, Asmah, I decided to pay a visit. I really fell in love with the sketch and I decided to give it a try. At least it helps me to jump-start my scrapbooking once again.
This is a rare family photo and it was taken by Pn Laili after Zahra's 2nd Dressage competition, on September 23, 2012, at Royal Selangor Polo Club. She was riding Diabolo. for this competition, Zahra' emerge 2nd Runner-up.
I created this layout using this sketch from filipinoscrapbookers.

Our Beautiful World Photo challenge - Halloween

Truly fascinating subject for Our Beautiful World photo challenge. Only thing is my  family and I do not celebrate Halloween. Two weeks ago, we were at Great Eastern Mall where I had to pay my bill and then buy some groceries. At the lobby of the mall, there were booths selling Halloween items and at one corner there's a display of a 'abandoned' house and supposedly 'haunted'. I took a couple of photos of the 'scenery' and I know these photos truly fit the caption of the week. The only snag was I had to patiently wait for my turn because every one seem to want to take photos at the time. There's one family who really hog the entrance door and they really consumed the entire door for nearly an hour. By the time Zahra' got her turn, I had to do a rushed shoot because another family is waiting. Anyway, these are the best I could have.

Week 18 ~ Halloween

Hello there, although Halloween is on Thursday but this weekend is sort of the party weekend for it right, I saw a cat lady and a wicked witch at the store when we went out for dinner last night, and shops that sell costumes are jam packed, are you having a party at home too? Anyway, Milagros said we should all celebrate Halloween today, come join in the fun!

Here are some of the photos taken on that day:

Hope you enjoy the shots. Thank you for looking.

Don't Fret.....some things can just wait

Today was a Sunday I really look forward to. In my little head I had planned the things I want to do for the day. I was in the middle of taking out the laundry from the washing machine when hubby said, "Shall we go to KLCC park for a morning walk?" I decided not to protest since hubby had not been well, so this walk will do him good. I quickly ran upstairs to wake the child and get her to help me hang the clothes. I chose a few change of clothes and 'dump' them into the duffel bag. So, for the morning that was the only chore attended to.

After completing three-and-a-half laps, I decided to stop. Then I saw Zahra' sitting at one of the benches. Just like me, she has had enough. While waiting for her dad, we chatted a while and being the scrapbooker that I am, I whipped out my camera. Naturally, Zahra' groaned - not again. Fortunately, I managed to get 30 shots of her and I told her not to look into the camera for a change. I just wanted to try taking portraits from different angles.
As soon as her dad arrived, we proceeded to walk towards Suria KLCC to have our breakfast. On the way, hubby told me that Zahra' wanted us to watch "Insidious Chapter 2". I was mortified and started making noises. Off course, Zahra' wouldn't hear of it. In the end I gave in and just followed along.
While hubby bought the tickets, I took Zahra' to Skechers (first time for her) to show her the shoes on display. Since Zahra' has low tolerance on shoes, she ended up selecting five shoes for me to buy later for her.
At 11:40 am we walked to the cinema to take our seats. There were just a handful of people in the cinema and majority were ladies. I would have expected a lot of screams but most of the loud frightening voice came from my right. You guessed it. From my little darling, off course.
Overall, I would say the movie is not so overwhelmingly scary neither is it too bloody gory and with a few heart stopping moments thrown in for good measure. The connectivity of the stories from one scene to the next was very well done and I end up feeling satisfied watching it. Good watch, just don't expect too much.
A couple of things I learnt:
1) Spent some quality time with my two dearest ones (at the expense of my scheduled housework and layout that is still staring at me to be completed) even if it is just a movie.
2) Applied one of the chapters from the book "Don't Sweat Over the Small Stuff ........" and that is forget about your housework when your child is pleading for your time to spend together. Just like what it was written, I really felt good. Hmm....when was the last time we watched a movie together?
3) From the movie - mothers must try not to be overbearing and/or controlling over their child. The child has a right to be who she or he wants to be; not what the mother wants her or him to be. A little control exercised is healthy but don't overdo it.
Since this is too good a post to pass, I decided to write instead and will work on my layout tomorrow. Anyway, I still managed to do a bit of  housework. Oh well...better than nothing.

She LOVEs to Ride (Malaysia)

This post is for Our Beautiful World photo challenge. This is for Week 17 with the title on LOVE.

Love itself carries a wide range of definition and it is very difficult to just to narrow it to a very specific subject. As such, I decided to post a photo of my daughter who loves horses and to ride them. This was taken on June 16, 2013, during her 2nd Internal Dressage Competition. On this day, she was assigned to ride Pumpkin.

2013 Final Dressage Competition for Adni Students

Well, it is almost year-end now and the internal Dressage Competition for Adni students is coming to a close, too. But, if there are students interested to participate in the November and December competition, then it is not the final. It all depends on whether these students would like to accumulate more marks to be the champion for 2013.
The following are photos taken around the competition. My young girl who participated in the competition came out fourth with 56.25 points. This is her best pre-birthday gift for herself. Since she is 'tired' of being photographed by her paparazzi mum, I really missed taking a picture of her with her winning ribbon. Still, the group photo showed her displaying her Green ribbon with pride.

Husna on Ethan. Unfortunately for Husna, Ethan is extremely unresponsive
causing Husna to lose a lot of points.

Sophia forgot her chaps. So she managed to get her sister's chaps to complete her attire.
Both her mum and Nurul's mum helped to put on the chaps for her.
Rule of thumb - Sophia should wear her chaps before sitting on the horse.

Puan Laili - the convenor, and Shila Kasim, the parent

Zahra' and Doe Doe. Two best friends since 2010.

Aaah! How refreshing after being in the hot sun. Zahra with Aliya, Sophia and

Group photo - Prepatory B and Prepatory C (Adni students) combined for this photo
shoot. Zahra' came out fourth and she is proudly holding her green ribbon.

Wonderful You

It's been a while since I played at Colorfulcreations.  This layout is for CC July GDT Sketch and the guest designer was Natasha. I am a fan of Natasha and I always look forward to her layouts.

I decided to use 2 photos instead of 1. These photos were taken during the Flora show at Putrajaya. We went there after attending my Nephew's wedding reception. There were many types of flowers on display and the centre of attraction were the variety of Orchids. If only mum would have followed us, then.
While taking in the beauty of the flowers, we came across an area where snakes stole the show. Zahra' being Zahra', decided to try her hands at holding the Albino Burmese python and the US Ball Python. I was totally not into it but on second thoughts I would not have any pictures of Zahra' while holding these slitherens. I decided to brave all odds and capture these moments. It was also her first attempt and she decided that she really enjoyed it.

This is my take on the sketch:
Location : Putrajaya

I like the comment made by DT Lainie Michel of Colourful Creations:

Tense Moment

It is very rare indeed to have a photo of Zahra' in a very pensive mood. She's the kind of person who always smiles or being playful and cheeky. This was taken at the race course on Sept 23, 2012 - 7 days away to her 13th birthday. She was very tensed while waiting for her turn for her 2nd Dressage Competition. After all she only had less than an hour's practice the previous day.
Using Heather Waldron's of  Scrapysketches 31-13 sketch, I created this layout for WPW Challenge #20 {July} of Sketchesforyou Word Prompt Weekly Challenge. Heather creates lovely sketches at her blog. I also added this layout to Homeandscrapped, which is the siter site of Scrappy Sketches blog.
For this layout, I used Cardstock as the base, which I had not used in a while. I also used up pretty much a lot of my scraps and other items from my stash. The new items are the Art Deco pattern paper and Pop Artz Flowers which I bought on Saturday, 27th July 2013. So pretty much a mix of the old and new.

Here's the sketch:

Dreamer

This is my first entry for PurplePumpkin. I would have upload this layout much sooner but was held back by Zahra's remark of "Don't you think it's bit bare at the top?" Hmm.....on second thoughts, I knew she was right. Back to the drawing board and I added stamped images of the birds in flight  to fill up the space, but not actually cluttering it.
This photo was of Zahra' at 12 years of age, taken at the Kuala Kubu Baru dam. Her dad decided to use this alternative route on our way back to my in-laws house then. The 'lake' was beautiful and for those who frequented this area before the dam would know the 'losses' incurred. I, for one, miss the river that I once went 'camping' with my sister and her family.
This layout is based on this sketch by Debbie Burns.
